Gran Canaria

The small continent - that is how this island is called because of its extremely varied landscapes with European, African and even American vegetation. The mountain range in the island's centre at a height of about 2000 meters, is cut by some bizarre canyons and sightseers will enjoy visiting the 15th century Castillo de la Luz, the cobbled streets of the historic Vegueta district and the Cassa-Museo Colon - the former governors mansion where guests have included Christopher Columbus. Sprawling woodlands and fascinating rock formations can be explored throughout the island. The city of Las Palmas is a mecca for yachting and tourism, with outdoor cafes, boutiques, restaurants and nightclubs. Hardly anywhere else you can find such different landscapes and even climatical zones being geographically that close one to each other: mountain ranges, desert land, and tropical forests.
